Herringbone
The strongest interlock of the common patterns, because every paver is held in place by its neighbors at an angle. It is the usual choice for driveways and busy patios, and it looks good in either a 90 degree or a 45 degree layout.

Pattern guide
The pattern changes how the surface looks and how well it holds up. Here is how the options in the studio compare.
The strongest interlock of the common patterns, because every paver is held in place by its neighbors at an angle. It is the usual choice for driveways and busy patios, and it looks good in either a 90 degree or a 45 degree layout.
Rows laid like brickwork, with each joint landing in the middle of the paver next to it. It is simple, clean and quick to lay, and it works well for walkways and patios.
Pairs of pavers turned at right angles to make a woven look. It is a classic for patios and garden paths, and a good fit for older homes.
Every joint lines up in a grid. It has a modern, clean look and suits patios and walkways, but it has less interlock than herringbone, so we keep it away from driveways.
A random mix of paver sizes that looks like cut stone. It gives a relaxed, natural feel to patios and courtyards.
Color and borders
Darker pavers like charcoal and slate give a modern look and hide dirt and oil stains well. Warm tones like sandstone and terracotta feel earthy and bring out plants and wood.
A contrasting border frames the surface and gives the edge a clean finish. It also lets us mix two colors without it looking busy.
Colors on a screen never match real pavers exactly, so we bring samples to your free estimate and let you hold them up in your own light.
